The history of vodka started in Russia in the 14th century.

Early Vodka recipes at this time, were made by the distillation of grapes, this was considered to be a spirited wine, as it was a combination of English spirits and wine. Then legend suggests in around 1430, a monk named Isidore, from a Monastery inside the Moscow Kremlin, made the first recipe for Russian Vodka (meaning little water.)

Possessing an exceptional knowledge in distillation, he created a higher quality of alcoholic beverage using grains; it was referred to as “burning wine”. Moving forward to the 8th June 1751 Empress Elizabeth regulated the ownership of vodka distilleries, and by the 1860s it became the drink of choice for many Russians. But after 1863, the Russian monopoly on vodka manufacturing was repealed, creating an opportunity for experimental vodka production to grow and enjoyed worldwide.
